Qualifying at Sunderland University with a B ed in Design Technology, Alison went on to teach design technology, graphics and art, in a mainstream school. She then taught in a special needs school for many years.
Her love of pastels go back to childhood, she enjoys the freedom to be bold and expressive in her art and espescially uses them to depict how light falls on forms. Much of her work is figurative, people and their relationship to their surroundings fascinate her.
Spending much of her time observing the landscape of the Solway Firth, how it re invents itself, with it’s changes of weather, light, and tides , help her create pastel seascapes, atmospheric, bold and colourful.
Alison is also inspired by the work of Alison Holt’s free motion machine embroidery. She loves the effects this technique brings to the creation of animal fur and skin, capturing the light, texture mood and movement in her own work.
