"21st NOVEMBER 1963"

The Beatles second appearance in Carlisle. The ABC cinema,Warwick Road.

This was The Beatles’ second concert at this Carlisle venue, following their show earlier in the year on the 8th of February supporting Helen Shapiro. This time the Fab Four headlined the date. With many volunteered accounts of “I was there !” given to us since the painting has been exhibited, we can confidently report that practically no one heard the lads perform for the screaming.

21st November was the 17th date of The Beatles’ 1963 Autumn Tour.

Kevin started drawing at the age of three. Started selling paintings at 11 years old, and won his first mural and interior design contracts at the age of 14.

After studying at Carlisle College of Art & Design he trained further as a graphic designer, working on hundreds of large and international advertising campaigns during the seventies. If you were alive then you will have seen Kevin’s work.

Kevin is a working artist, mainly on commissioned pieces and designs, so it is rare to see a collection of his work exhibited together outside private ownership.

Working in all mediums, subject matters and styles, he understands that the commissioned piece dictates the style. With numerous celebrity portrait commissions of  Sir Alan Ayckbourn, Clint Eastwood, Johnny Depp, John Wayne, Seve Ballesteros, Bjorn Borg, Damon Hill, Ayrton Senna, Matt Busby, Ray Mears and many more, his works are included in some of the largest private collections in the UK, with works hung alongside David Hockney and valuations by Bonhams of London,

If he has a specialty it is the creation of large murals, a skill he has honed since his early teens, the largest to date being 164m wide.

For over 25 years, Kevin has taught weekly painting and drawing classes and enjoys holding workshop days or week courses with a very relaxed and fun atmosphere.

"MOONLIGHTERS"

Whisky smugglers, Burgh Marsh, Solway Firth 1830’s

In the 1830’s parliament increased the tax on whisky imported into England and this caused an epidemic of smuggling in scotch whisky.

Coaches, wagons & small boats had secret compartments for this purpose ,the vast majority being apprehended by the excise men. The upper reaches of the Solway were particularly favoured by the smugglers with many local houses having ” Whisky Holes”….

The painting shows “bladders” of whisky being unloaded, these being easier to transport by horse.
